Left BP in '84 with disastrous A level results. Entered the banking profession where I stayed for 8 years. Decided I needed a change so for the next 12 years I worked my way up to the dizzy heights of regional circulation manager through a number of newspapers including the Yorkshire Post, Barnsley Chronicle (where I had to use a typewriter for the entire duration!!!!) and Newsquest (where computers had been discovered). I then became a food manager for M&S (god we ate well during that period) and was then head-hunted (that's what I like to call it anyway) to my current role as Corporate Account Manager for a company who develop bespoke e-learning solutions and platforms.
I spent the first few years after leaving school trying out various 80's fashion faux pas (remember the Miami Vice look - pastel jackets and t-shirts, sleeves rolled up, canvass shoes and no socks) and wondering why I never had a girlfriend. Then I bumped into a girl who I had dated at Benton a couple of times and asked her out again. She was a poor university student and I drove a Ford Escort - how could she say no! We started dating and then she went to live in France for a year. We got married in 1993 in Horsforth and have lived here pretty much since then.
Our twin boys (Jack & George) were born in 2001 through IVF. Thankfully they have their mother's brains (and good looks for that matter).
I'm currently trying to redeem al my past misdemeanours by giving back to society. I have coached a junior football team for the past five years (ironic since I could never forcy my way into the school first team) and have been a cub scout leader for three years - no jokes please.
